This collection is the result of time spent at the Sanskriti Foundation, New Delhi, India. A residency awarded by the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan.
I absorbed a wealth of visual material from a vibrant country of extreme contrasts, gathering ideas from Delhi and the neighbouring state of Rajasthan. The works began to formulate in India and developed over the following years in my studio. The paintings mainly explore the figure in its environment, a new departure in the work at this time. They draw upon the incredible richness of new found pattern and texture in my continued exploration of the paint surface and of two-dimensional space. The hazy light, warmth and jewel-like colours of India have inspired a new palette.
