Flow

The island on a frozen lake, seashore, the watery garden, the unique coastal limestone landscape of north County Clare all have captured my imagination and inspired this series of work.

Sea, snow, cloud, ice, bog; All are forms of the most omnipresent substance on Earth, water. Its reaction with light is fascinating. It can be transparent, translucent or opaque. These states of matter, solid, liquid and gas forms are recreated in the paint techniques used; Veils of dilute paint, building layers of subtle texture. The ebb, flow and continuous flux is reflected in my creative process. I use observation and memories of places I have visited, as a springboard from which to begin. Once marks are made, the work will take on a life of its own. It creates a dialogue with me. Structures appear and disappear until the ever shifting shapes and volumes come to rest in the final composition.
